Waterville in Co. Kerry is due to host its annual Charlie Chaplin Festival this weekend. Now in its ninth year the sleepy village in Co. Kerry has an association with Charlie Chaplin which dates back to the 1950’s when the film star paid a visit to Waterville with his family.
Spread out over the weekend, the festival is a celebration not just of Charlie Chaplin himself, but of film comedy in general. The festival is offering a number of events including a tribute museum to another comedy great Laurel and Hardy, a social commentary film competition, and the whole festival kicks off with a Charlie Chaplin Parade where locals and visitors alike will dress up and pay tribute in their own way to the legend that is Charlie Chaplin.
